Red Bottle overall rating:
7/7 |
|
A fruity and well aged red. Excellent with
character. Best served at a temperature of
18-20° with game, red meats, aged cheeses.
|
|
 |
If not the king, as many argue, Cabernet Sauvignon
is certainly the most successful and popular of
the top-quality red wine grapes.

A
bit of history:
LEONARDO
(Leonardo da Vinci, 1452 - 1519) |
"Leonardo
da Vinci was like a man who awoke too early in the
darkness, while the others were all still asleep"
(Sigmund Freud)
|
 |
Leonardo da Vinci was
a Florentine artist, one of the great masters of
the High Renaissance, who was also celebrated as
a painter, sculptor, architect, engineer, and scientist.
His profound love of knowledge and research was
the keynote of both his artistic and scientific
endeavors. His innovations in the field of painting
influenced the course of Italian art for more than
a century after his death, and his scientific studies,
particularly in the fields of anatomy, optics, and
hydraulics, anticipated many of the developments
of modern science.
|
 |
An especially notable
characteristic of Leonardo's paintings is his landscape
backgrounds, into which he was among the first to
introduce atmospheric perspective. As a scientist
Leonardo towered above all his contemporaries.
His scientific theories, like his artistic innovations,
were based on careful observation and precise documentation.
He understood, better than anyone of his century
or the next, the importance of precise scientific
observation.
|
 |
A creator in all branches of art, a discoverer in
most branches of science, and an inventor in branches
of technology, Leonardo deserves, perhaps more than
anyone, the title of Homo Universalis, Universal
Man. |

CABERNET SAUVIGNON
(Find more on our web site...) |
If
not the king, as many argue, Cabernet Sauvignon
is certainly the most successful and popular
of the top-quality red wine grapes. The flavor,
structure, complexity, and longevity of wines
made from the Cabernet Sauvignon grape are
what makes it so popular. The acids and tannins
help form the basis for its structure and
longevity. Although the Cabernet Sauvignon
grape has been grown in Italy for over 150
years, it has only recently become more popular.
Italian winemakers are now blending Cabernet
Sauvignon with the local top red wine grape,
Sangiovese.

The 'Stroncoli'
vineyards lay close to the position once occupied
by an ancient Etruscan villa and face the fascinating
landscape of the Sienese clays from a wonderful position.
The grapes are selected and harvested carefully by
hand.
We can find a wonderful tannic tenderness in this
full-bodied wine with great aromas. Cabernet Sauvignon
and Sangiovese grapes were separately fermented at
controlled temperature (26°C) with a maceration
21 days for the former and 14 days for the latter.
The malolactic fermentation was completed within the
end of November (for Cabernet Sauvignon in French
barriques). The blend is prepared after the malolactic
fermentation, the wine is refined in French barriques
for 24 months and then in bottle at least 12-18 months.
The result is a ruby garnish colour, an intense fragrance
of red fruits and traces of vanilla originated from
the French oak. At last, a rich and tender flavour
in a full-bodied wine with an excellent tannic concentration.

Can
age further...
Healthy color. Mature, but rich
and enormously complex, with an array of earthy
currant, anise, cedar and vanilla, turning smooth
and supple in texture. Drinks well now but can age
further. |

Marco
says: |
An
excellent structure...
A mature great wine, with ripe,
juicy cherry and plummy Cabernet flavors. Elegant,
detailed, complex, lively, lingering, spicy and
still years from fading. An excellent structure
with soft tannins and a lot of perfume. |

"Stoncoli is a proprietary
blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Sangiovese.
A sensational nose of cedar, melted licorice, black
currants, and vanilla jump from the glass of this
full-bodied, intense, complete wine. Pure, nicely
layered, and exceptionally rich, with no hard edges,
it should drink well for 10-12 years, perhaps longer."

"Ripe and raisiny, with lots
of plummy character. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins
and a medium, vanilla aftertaste. Best after 2001." |

"From the initial scents of
red berries to the festive, lifted finish, this
wine is all about fruit, fragrant as a bowl of succulent
blackberries, mulberries and raspberries in the
sun. Complex earth tones develop with air, adding
a soulful feel to all that fruit." |
