MICHELANGELO Buonarroti
(1475 - 1564) |
The
Sistine Chapel Ceiling - "In order to prepare
for this enormous work, Michelangelo drew numerous
figure studies and cartoons, devising scores of
figure types and poses. These awesome, mighty images,
demonstrating Michelangelo's masterly understanding
of human anatomy and movement, changed the course
of painting in the West. ."

Michelangelo, arguably one of the most inspired
creators in the history of art and, with Leonardo
da Vinci, the most potent force in the Italian High
Renaissance. As a sculptor, architect, painter,
and poet, he exerted a tremendous influence on his
contemporaries and on subsequent Western art in
general.
|
 |
For posterity Michelangelo has always remained one
of the small group of the most exalted artists,
who have been felt to express, like Shakespeare
or Beethoven, the tragic experience of humanity
with the greatest depth and universal scope. |

The colour of this 'Brunello
di montalcino Riserva' is deep red, clear and
brilliant. As the wine is ageing the intensity of
the colour gradates garnet red. We suggest you to
serve the wine in wide and rounded crystal glasses
in order to appreciate the harmonious bouquet and
at a temperature around 18°c. Open the bottle
some hours before drinking the wine to appreciate
its pureness. Serve it to red meat, wild animals,
mushrooms, truffle or cheeses.

Something
to sniff for days...
With the passing of the years,
it steadily acquires greater fragrance, a more velvety
flavor, increased harmony and an odor that is delicate
and at the same time quite intense.
A little dry and tannic, but rich enough to provide
some mouth-coating pleasure. |

Precise
and elegant...
It is precise and elegant, dry
and lingering. In feel, very similar to a top Bordeaux,
with cassis and dark cherry flavors, a rich and
evolving attack, and youthful dusty tannins in the
finish. Outstanding with beef. La Fornace made a
very good job indeed. |

"Brunello di Montalcino 1997
Riserva - Gorgeous aromas of crushed raspberries
and currants, with hints of blackberries. Then it
turns spicy and minty. Full-bodied, and super well-knit,
with a silky, refined tannin structure that only
deft winemaking can produce. Firm and tight still.
Give this time. Best after 2006." |

A
bit of history:
BRUNELLO HISTORY
(Find more on our web site...) |
Around 1870, Ferruccio Biondi-Santi
began to set out in his vineyards a clone of the
Sangiovese variety known as Brunello.
Biondi-Santi did not stop there but went on to break
with the traditions of the place. At that time,
Tuscans generally preferred young red wines, which
were softened and rendered more immediately drinkable
through the use of the governo. Tastes even ran
to fizzy reds.
However, the innovative winemaker subjected the
wine, as it still is, to a process of fining involving
a stay of at least four years in oak casks, completed
by a period in the bottle where in time it developed
outstanding qualities. Brunello began to be talked
about after 1880. The first great vintage, officially,
was the 1888 Brunello, of which five bottles still
exist. Their contents are perfectly preserved, a
proof of the wine's great powers of longevity. With
the passing of the years, it steadily acquires greater
fragrance, a more velvety flavor, increased harmony
and an odor that is delicate and at the same time
quite intense.
