About Valpolicella area
(the Valley of Many Cellars...)

The name Valpolicella is derived, as far as we know, from the Greek "poli" and the Latin "celli" and means "Valley of Many Cellars". In fact the name is wholly appropriate as wine producing has always been the main agricultural concern of the area.

Valpolicella is a clearly definied territory and is crossed from north to south by a series of hills which form parallel valleys intersected by "progni". "Progni" is a dialect word meaning creek beds which remain dry for most of the year expect occasionally during heavy autumn rains or spring thaws.
The area is bordered by the Lessini range of mountains to the north while its southern and western confines run more or less contigous with the Adige river.
The Valpolicella areas comprises five communes: Fumane, Marano, Negrar, Sant'Ambrogio and San Pietro in Cariano.

The soil is mainly limestone and geologists date its formation back to the Jurassic and Cretacean periods. The climate is mild and temperate with approximately 900-1000 cm (350-400 inches) of rainfall per year. Temperatures range from a minimum of 11-15° C to a maximum of 25-30° C.

Finish:

The tactile and flavor impressions left in the mouth while a beverage is being swallowed. Some beverages finish harsh, hot, and astringent, while others are smooth, soft, and elegant.

"Stefano Accordini" estate extends over 4 hectares situated in Negrar, the heart of Valpolicella, in a place called Bessole.
These vineyards are a precious source of great satisfaction thanks to their southern-east exposure and their soil, which is well balanced in its components.
A good choice of three different varieties of grapes, Corvine, Rondinelle and Corvinone, grafted by Stefano and taken from grapes of high quality, guarantees every year the production of ripe grapes well suited to be withered.
In the new estate among the hills of Fumane a new vineyard of about 6 hectares is being planted.
Even the traditional techniques, such as Ripasso, are usually employed to produce a wine of high level, the Valpolicella Classico Superiore.
A great attention is given to the grape withering, a technique which enables the production of the most important wines of the Accordini family such as Amarone, Recioto and the innovative IGT Passo.

Palladio's Villa La Rotonda (La Capara) - Vicenza

The Veneto extends from the Alps to the Adriatic Sea and includes a part of the Italian slopes of the Eastern Alps. Its vineyards not only yield a great amount of premium wines but a large volume of wine for mass consumption. Merlot is the leading grape, which covers 30% of the regional vineyard surface, along with Garganega and Prosecco coming in second covering 20% of vineyard surface.

Venice's region has emerged in recent times as Italy's largest producer of wine with a major share classified as DOC or DOCG (more than 300 million bottles a year).

Leading the flow is Verona's trio of Soave, Valpolicella and Bardolino. But since DOC represents less than a third of the region's total, the Veneto also figures as a major producer and exporter of IGT wines, often of moderate price.

The Veneto has three general areas of premium wine production: the western province of Verona in the hills between Lake Garda and the town of Soave; the central hills in the provinces of Vicenza, Padova and Treviso; the eastern plains of the Piave and Tagliamento river basins along the Adriatic coast northeast of Venice.
